We had a very nice stay at Hotel La Gemma. The hotel is ideally located in the middle of Florence, short walking distance to the Dome, the Palazzo Vecchio and the Ponte Vecchio. We really enjoyed the familiar and very personal atmosphere, and in particular also the stylish décor and furnishing of the hotel. Breakfast, which was in included in our rate, was great (served to the table). And also the dinner at the hotel restaurant Luca’s was superb.

When we arrived at Hotel La Gemma, it had been opened a grand total of 15 days. But no one could tell because Gianluca, the Hotel Manager, was in charge and everything was already in full swing and running smoothly. Gianluca himself showed us to our suite and made us feel welcomed. He was warm, engaging and very helpful throughout our 3-night stay. He even showed me how to make the stamps stick on my postcard by gently peeling off the back of them - they were adhesive like stickers. Before Gianluca came to the rescue, I was licking the back of the stamps like a fast-melting gelato but they still wouldn't stick. Gianluca also patiently walked me through the Tren Italia website to book our train tickets to Venice - all on my mobile phone. Eduardo at the Front Desk was earnest, lively and of great assistance. At breakfast, Luca the waiter was very good at explaining the extensive menu and choices available. He was solicitous and anticipated our needs. We missed him when he was not on duty. The hotel’s location is excellent, right in the heart of Florence and a stone’s throw from the Post Office. It is a very short walk to Piazza Republica, Ponte Vecchio and the beautiful landscape of the River Arno. The rooms are very well-appointed; huge comfy beds with fluffy pillows, a wide array of fragrant toiletries and, thick body-encompassing towels. The impression is one of old-world sophistication and luxury. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning to Hotel La Gemma.

Beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Florence. Everyone at La Gemma is super kind, just like family. Luca's Ristorante is exceptional. We would stay there should we visit Florence again! We cannot thank La Gemma enough for all the attentions.

New beautiful hotel that is 5 star. Staff was first class and was very guest focused. It’s not a big hotel but the rooms were well appointed and the linens were very nice. There was a chilled bottle of Prosecco in our room when we got there. They have Paulo Airaudo, a Michelin chef in the kitchen. There is a window looking directly into the kitchen so you can watch Chef prepare wonderful dishes! It is located very close to the Medici Castle. We highly recommend this hotel!

Details matter and La Gemma didn’t miss. The rooms are spacious with 10+ ceilings and beautiful drapery that adds a touch of elegance to the room. There were embroidered towels, decorative pillows and monogrammed touches throughout the room. Each day at turn down service they placed a full size Aqua Panna with a crystal glass on each nightstand. The slippers were also super cozy. Censored bedside lights to help you see in the nighttime - thoughtful touch. The hotel has lots of little hideaways. Be sure to start your day in breakfast room, and end your evenings at the bar or rooftop for views of the city. Last but not least, I can’t say enough about the the staff. They were all so attentive, personable and genuinely kind. We arrived as guests and left feeling like friends. Pros: It’s a brand new boutique hotel, so everything is pristine and as pictured on the website. It’s centrally located near the main train station, shops, restaurants and sites. You can walk just about everywhere! Con: Just one…They do not provide a steamer or iron in the room. You’ll pay ~$15 for each item to be pressed by housekeeping.

Hotel La Gemma is a truly magical hotel set in a perfect location in Florence. While the hotel itself is truly spectacularly decorated and comfortable, it is the staff that takes the hotel to another level. Everyone we encountered was kind, helpful and accommodating. From the attentive staff at Lucas who understood that American women drink lots of coffee and after day one brought us entire pots (the kind gentleman who is a student from Iran..sorry forget his name) to the wonderful manager (again sadly forget his name but he has salt and pepper hair/goatee) who understood when I had a family emergency with my son requiring surgery and allowed me to come home early without a penalty. Delightful Edwardo, whose family owns the hotel, showed us around at check in and it is obvious the level of care and attention the family puts into the hotel and each guest. We had two rooms, the superior and standard and both were lovely, cleaned daily to perfection and designed for comfort. I am thrilled to know that I have the opportunity to return in November and May with my family to once again stay in La Gemma and visit with the staff that now feel like friends! La Gemma is a true work of art and stand out hotel experience.
